Erica Mattos LPC
Erica Mattos is a Licensed Professional Counselor (37PC00672300) with a wealth of experience in the counseling field. Erica is a graduate of Montclair State University, where she received her Master’s degree in Mental Health Counseling. Erica has worked with diverse populations with varying needs, including anxiety, depression, ADHD, low self-esteem, serious and persistent mental illness, and family conflict. She has provided therapy to children and adolescents in partial hospitalization, IOP, and outpatient settings as well in-home services. Erica has been a program manager in an adult mental health program in addition to providing therapy in outpatient settings.
Erica brings a warm, accepting, and light-hearted approach to therapy. She laughs easily and supports her clients with kindness to help them learn new skills. Erica has great success engaging her clients in therapy and tailoring therapy to her clients’ individual needs. Erica utilizes Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) with a person-centered approach, and at times, incorporates psychodynamic techniques into therapy. Erica draws on DBT and CBT to teach coping skills to help individuals and families manage behaviors, thoughts, and feelings that create change. Erica is certified in the Nurtured Heart Approach, a research supported therapy using positive parenting techniques to help children with ADHD.
Furthermore, Erica played collegiate soccer and served as the captain of her team. This affords her insight into the competitive athletes’ experience and mindset. She helps hone student athlete’s thoughts and emotions to improve their performance on and off the field.
