Mindfulness

Mindfulness is the psychological state of being present and focussed on the current moment while observing your emotions, thoughts, physical experience, and external world without judgement. It is a continuous moment to moment attention to the present. This is a learned skill that everyone can develop. It is usually cultivated through meditation or specific exercises that foster a focus on the here and now. Mindfulness is successful at improving psychological and physical health. It can be used to decrease anxiety, improve mood, decrease stress, and increase connection to others. Additionally, it can be used to help treat hypertension, cardiac issues, headaches, and pain. At Birch Tree Psychology, psychologists, psychotherapists, and cognitive therapists have individual mindfulness sessions, as well as, workshops that teach mindfulness skills.
